A native of Pennsylvania, Bill moved to Augusta in 1940. He retired from the Augusta Chronicle as outdoor editor and sports writer in 2000, and has since devoted his time to his passion of bottle collecting. In 2011, Bill was inducted into the Federation of Historical Bottle Collectors Hall of Fame. Bill and his wife, Bea, donated their entire collection of antique bottles and local merchants' pottery (whiskey jugs, mini jugs) to the Augusta Museum of History in 2014. The museum plans to construct a permanent display area for the Bill & Bea Baab Collections to be opened to the public in 2015. The display will feature rotating exhibits, the first of which will be Augusta patent medicines dating from the 1840's through the first quarter of the 20th century.
